The Italian director, Damiano Rossi, brings us here in his own interpretation of the Gospel of Mark. He opts for a contrasted black and white in which the penetrating light is deliberately overexposed in order to highlight this quest for hope, divinity, like a path to follow for the protagonists who seem in perpetual questioning. These characters, dressed in black or white, evoke a Manichean confrontation: life in the face of death.

The choice of a refined decor, built from stone walls contributes to a loss of focus for the viewer. Only a few accessories appear as astonishing symbolic forms to be deciphered: mirror, coat rack, chair... The director also enjoys playing with the notion of time passing by including a modern technological element: the mobile phone, sign of communication, speech, exchange.

Talita l'abbandono is a sensory short film with an important work on the image giving this aspect of meticulous photography.  The gestures of the characters contribute a lot because indeed, they often appear static in a space reduced to eight closed. The pictorial aspect encourages contemplation. The general atmosphere is both soothing and worrying. This being due to the anxiogenic sound design and the female voice-over reinforcing the spiritual aspect.

The spectator then seems to be a witness of a mystical ritual to which he cannot intervene. What path to follow? The ambiguity of the soul is no longer to be proven... the spectator loses himself gracefully in a dreamlike, abstract and religious rite immersed between daydream and divine reality.
