A 60 minute feature film in which the director, Matthew Ewald, based his work on the genre film: the police thriller mixed with the action. A spectacular music to set the tone! Dark light, modern and gloomy decors. There is a David Fincher side. The dress style of the characters refers to the years 50-60 and the "film noir".

The first half hour is meant to be suffocating. Indeed, the main character is sequestered in a cellar. Once installed as close as possible to him, we come out only once the shots are exhausted. No mercy for our characters.
There is the idea of making a large exploitation film with few means using pre-made codes, especially for the screenplay. This is hardly a fault, on the contrary, the director’s will is admirable. His film makes sense. The different parts of the film announced make the work even more intriguing and surprising. Everything is done to seduce the general public: suspense music, revolvers galore, shots, demonic masks, suspense, action… even the credits are designed in this way.  Beyond the recurring tension, the film has its moment shifted with the dance scene that allows the spectator to breathe.

The director appropriates the genre and skillfully diverts it to a work of a personal author with in particular these visual sequences with close-up on key objects. Better, his presence as an actor accentuates his involvement in the project and makes us wonder if there is something lived in there. Maybe, his love for the United States and fighting?

The quotations of Stefen King as introduction and conclusion well sum up the concept of the film. The director thinks big and he’s right.
The Coffin Around Kings is a real entertainment that will satisfy your movie night!
